Californians flock to Mexico for healthcare
Thursday, 18 June 2009
Residents of California are increasingly going across the border into Mexico for healthcare. In 2006, 150,000 Californians received medical treatment south of the border. Going to Mexico is a popular option among those without health insurance, but even many with health insurance are heading south because of the reduced cost. California resident Raul Duarte said, "In the case of my sister-in-law, she had cataract surgery in Mexico and paid less for the whole surgery, hospitalization and medicine than what she would've paid for a doctor's visit here in the States."
